Born in Codo in 1888 into a peasant family, he started ecclesiastic studies at the seminary and at the Pontifical University of Zaragoza, although later he left to pursue a military career. After living in Morocco for several years, he moved to Madrid, where he was ascended to captain. He spent some time in Barcelona and after the Civil War he took exile in Mexico. After a brief stay in America he returned to Spain a very sick man and shortly afterwards he died in Madrid.

He was outstanding in the genre of short stories and biographies, although he also stood out as a writer of essays and articles in many newspapers and journals.

Many streets have been named after him today, as well as libraries and the secondary institute of Fuentes de Ebro “IES Benjamin Jarnes”.
