Cooperativa San Martín

The Cooperativa San Martin was founded in 1947 with a small number of partners.  Over its years of activity, this cooperative has seen fluctuations in the number of associated farmers, reflecting the situation suffered in the countryside, which have dropped from 400 less than 5 years ago, to 270 partners today.

The grove of hundred-year-old olive trees of Campo de Belchite is the main source of Empeltre olives, which is the variety that sustains the Cooperativa San Martin, with an average of one and a half million kilos of olives each year. Some of the specimens are more than 400 or 500 years old, conferring on this traditional and extensive crop, the value of being one of the landscape and environmental resources of greatest beauty and relevance in the area.

In the cooperative, the olives are processed using the most advanced technology and with qualified technical staff, who control the transformation process from their arrival, so as not to lose any of the properties that make this oil one of the most highly valued by the most demanding consumers.

Of the range of olive oils produced by San Martin (virgin olive oil, extra virgin and extra-virgin D.O.) Peltreb has been granted the Bajo Aragon denomination of origin. This is a D.O. Extra Virgin oil, prepared exclusively with Empeltre variety olives, with a strong golden or old gold colour. It is fruity, mild and pleasant in mouth, and its aromas remind us of the fragrance of the olive tree.
