Gervasio Artigas
A Uruguayan thinker and soldier, his origins lie in La Puebla de Alborton, as that is where his paternal grandfather was born, who emigrated to Buenos Aires and then later settled in Montevideo as co-founder of the city. Gervasio Artigas was born in Montevideo in 1764 and today he is considered to be the father of the Uruguayan country and one of the most illustrious South American people. He died in Paraguay in 1850 at the age of 86.
