OUR LADY DE LA PIEDAD PARISH CHURCH

Mudejar in its origins, like the tower, it was built in the 16th century.  In the beginning it had one single nave with chapels between the buttresses and a polygonal shaped apse, but around 1640, under the patronage of Archbishop Pedro Apaolaza (born in the town), he ordered it to be extended, which is why this temple combines Mudejar and Baroque elements. This extension led to the construction of two new naves (the chapels were extended) and the apse was also replaced with a transept and a new presbytery. Noteworthy is the tomb where Pedro Apaolaza lies, transferred to this church from the La Seo Cathedral in Zaragoza. During the civil war the temple lost almost all its furnishings as well as the high altarpiece, the organ and the choir.

Open for worship.
